ENVIROPROJECT 2008

In June 2008 our school got again a financial grant from the Ministry of Education of the Slovac Republic for an Enviroproject, this time with the topic "Getting to know the variety of species of the bioceonosi in the park of the Ožďany castle". The previous project was very popular with the children. Therefore we decided to continue with similar activities and within a natural history club discover the nature around us and in the same time we emphasize the importance of its protection. The locality of the castle park seemed a good place for our environmental activities. According to legends Juliana Korponay - the white lady of Levoča was burried here. Not a long time ago people used to organize "guláš" parties here to celebrate the Children´s Day or other occasions. Today the park is not used anymore and is overgrown. There is little information available about the history of the park and the original plants that were planted there at the time of its foundation. And so the castle and its park are more and more forgotten by people every year.

Aims of the project:

- raise interest of children in discovering nature in their closest environment and region

- make a key for identifying typical species of trees according to their leaves and fruit(identification circle of trees and identification cards)

- observe and document the diversity of plant and animal species in the castle park, focused on trees

- make a herbarium with examples of the observed plants and trees(leaves) and a collection of animal footprints

- through different environmental activities and eco-games in the country develop the environmental feelings of children and strengthen their positive attitude towards the protection of environment

- make a poster with particular results of the project(plant and animal species found) and photodocumentation

- in the science laboratory present laminated pictures - photodocumentation of the observed plant and animal species, herbarium, interesting moments of the project - with the possibility to transfer the presentation to the municipal office

- make a photoalbum about the process of the project and the observed structures

- make a Power Point presentation about the project for the pupils of the school, parents and everybody who would be interested

- present the results of the project on the school website, in the school magazine and the regional press (Gemerské zvesti, Novohradské noviny),

- through the project work and the publicity of its results pull the interest of the wider community in the Ožďany castle and its park again and show the meaning of permanent preservation and conservation of historical and natural values for following generations
